Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero has been an actress and model in the United States for a number of years. She was the main female vocalist in Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. Apollonia was a performer/singer who was christened by Prince in 1984 became one of many female singers of the 1980s that benefited from Prince. The actress was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959 her career started as a model and actress towards the end of the 1970s and included an appearance in the television series CHiPS. In 1984, she was cast as the female lead of Prince's Purple Rain (during which time she altered her name) and was replaced by Vanity as a member of the female group Vanity 6 performing with them in the movie under the name Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter was not a huge achievement for the group but she had a bigger impact as Prince's duet partner on Take Me with You on the soundtrack. The relationship between Kotero and Prince was ended after the two were at odds over her career direction. Apollonia 6, the group that she belonged to was ended up splitting. Kotero was in a few minor film projects during this time however, she was not able to take part on the set of the Purple Rain sequel Under the Cherry Moon. Between 1985 and 1986, she was offered a role on the evening drama Falcon Crest. Apollonia finally released her debut in 1988 but her comparatively tame collection of R&B/dance songs failed to be a hit with the music-buying public and it soon disappeared out of sight. She continued acting (if somewhat unnoticed) during the subsequent decade. Her small TV roles small films and workout videos kept her busy. Apollonia released a CD in Spanish and English entitled Stay with me in 1997. Following her return to the university she earned the degree of a bachelor in filmmaking and created her own business.
