A former leading fashion model, almost 5'10'' in height, Carey was a favorite with the top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, an accomplished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of Year award, is an accomplished geologist. Carey traveled all over due to her father's work. When she was a student at the University of Colorado, Carey started modeling for a side. An agent from Ford model agency located in New York noticed her and was willing to assist. She briefly lived and studied in Paris before returning to New York. Her modeling and college career took off and she was featured on Glamour's, Vogue's and many other magazine covers. In between her modeling assignments she was also a full-time student, completing a master's degree of literature from New York University. In the following years she discovered an interest in acting. She studied at Neighborhood Playhouse New York. Her first acting experience was in an appearance in the film with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Pardise. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing and windsurfing, climbing up rocks and whitewater rafting.
